Classic Mini specialist

The Mini is, without doubt, a quintessential British motoring icon with an avid following for both the classic models and the later BMW engineered cars. Here, at Cambridge Motorworks, we have a passion for Minis both old and new. The company can trace its roots way back to the early 1970s when current proprietor Blake Elkins’ father, Michael, and mother, Susan, established Klean Cars in Notting Hill, West London. As the name suggests, the company was centered around automotive valeting but, from time to time, sold one or two classic Minis, with Michael being very much a marque enthusiast, as was his young son Blake.

Michael went on to establish AllMinis which ostensibly concentrated on servicing and maintaining classic Minis from a single garage off the Portobello Road in London sans any lift! In 1995, AllMinis expanded with another workshop at the family home in Cambridge and branched out into regularly selling used Minis. In 2011, Blake Elkins, who has a background in automotive engineering and customer service, established  a new company in its own right, Cambridge Motorworks, located at The High Street, Great Shelford, just a few minutes drive from the University City of Cambridge. Here, the  former 1920s blacksmiths shop has been converted into an amazing, old feel showroom with workshops.

Having been brought up with Minis, and a classic car enthusiast at heart, Blake was perfectly placed to offer a wide variety of services to the discerning Mini owner whether their penchant was for classic models or BMW Minis. Cambridge Motorworks’ forte is to cater for the entire Mini range, from the very earliest models right up to BMW models, and has quickly grown to become the largest specialist of its type in East Anglia. It’s very much a family run company, with Blake alternating between hands-on maintenance and sales, while his wife, Lauren, looks after accounts. Assisting Blake in the workshop is Graham Barnes, another hugely experienced motor engineer and well versed in the idiosyncrasies of the Mini.

Here, at Motorworks, we can cater for all your classic Mini motoring requirements; anything from a quick engine oil change to a full service or some restorative work. We like to keep our customer happy, and low prices are key to us running a successful operation.

We stock around 30 Minis in any one time. All our Minis are fine examples, having low mileage and good history, and all in the best condition possible. All our Minis, Classic and Modern, are prepped to a very high standard. They’re all ready to go with no outstanding problems.
